Why Choose Us
As a small but sucessful yard, we pride ourselves on the individual care we can give each horse we believe this really make a big different to both the horses welfare, mental heath and ultimately performance on the track. A happy, healthy horse will give back 100% in its work.

when the horses are stabled during training we like to give them all the creature comforts our loose boxes have rubber matting on the floor to provide cushioning but we also like big fluffy beds which the horses really appreciate after a hard days training or racing. We strongly believe that ventilation is the key to healthy horses so we have the stable doors open as much as possible through out the day to allow as much air as possible to circulate.

Feeding is of the up most importance and each feed is tailored to each horses specific need, Chris does like each horse to find a carrot or two in each of their feeds. Its the little touches like this that a small yard like us can provide and the horses really enjoy.

Our farrier Toby Wheeler is very much part of the team a great friend of the family he has worked with Carroll and Chris for many years. He has huge experience as a racing farrier and keeps our horse feet heathy for work.

As an owner you are always welcome to visit and see you horses. The Copse is a very friendly yard, the kettle is always on. Being a smaller yard we have that extra bit of time to spend with our owners. We always do our upmost to ensure you enjoy race days and the day to day of racehorse ownership as much as possible.

Paddock turn out is very important for the horses well being, it allows them to unwind and is great for their mental health. We like our horses to have time in the field while in training as well as having a nice long summer holiday to completely relax and recharge before the start of the new season. We have a couple of small paddocks at the yard for turnout during training and some lovely big open fields for the summer.

Hacking is a big part of our training routine. We are incredible lucky to have the Quantock Hills on our doorstep which provides endless miles of stunning hacks. The hills are fantastic for fitness work especially at the start of the season when the horses are coming back into work. The scenery is stunning and the horses really do enjoy getting out and about, it is so good for their mental heath to keep the training interesting for them. The local woods provide lots of natural jumps to school over which the horses love.
